Privacy Policy
Clean Roll is a photo-cleanup app that runs entirely on your iPhone. It does not have a server, an account system, or a cloud backend. Your photos never leave your device.
The short version
- We do not collect, receive, store or transmit your photos.
- There is no account, no login and no user profile.
- There is no analytics, tracking, advertising or crash-reporting SDK in the app.
- The app makes no network requests of its own. The only network activity is Apple's own App Store purchase handling.
- Your keep/remove decisions are stored locally on your device and are deleted when you delete the app.
1. What Clean Roll accesses on your device
Your photo library. With your permission, Clean Roll reads your photo library through Apple's Photos framework (PhotoKit, via expo-media-library) so it can show you thumbnails and basic asset information such as size and creation date. Photos that are optimised to iCloud are displayed as local thumbnail references. All of this reading and rendering happens on the device, in the app. Nothing is copied to us or to any third party.
iOS controls this access. You can grant full library access, limited access to selected photos, or no access at all, and you can change your choice at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Photos → Clean Roll. If access is revoked, Clean Roll simply stops being able to show your library.
2. What is stored, and where
Clean Roll saves your review progress — which photos you marked to keep and which you marked to remove, plus simple app preferences such as whether the one-time unlock is active — in the app's own local storage on your device (AsyncStorage). This data stays in the app's sandbox on your iPhone. It is not synced to us, and we have no ability to read it.
3. Deleting photos
Marking a photo for removal inside Clean Roll does not delete anything by itself. When you choose to complete a cleanup, Clean Roll asks iOS to delete the selected photos, and iOS shows its own system confirmation prompt. Nothing is deleted unless you approve that prompt. Deleted photos go to Recently Deleted in the Photos app, where they remain recoverable for about 30 days under Apple's normal behaviour.
4. Purchases
Clean Roll offers a single one-time, non-consumable in-app purchase — "Clean Roll Unlock", USD 4.99 or the local equivalent — sold through Apple's StoreKit 2. The entire transaction is handled by Apple. Payment details are never seen by, or passed through, Clean Roll or Verto Studios. Purchase validation happens on your device using StoreKit's built-in cryptographic verification; no purchase receipt is sent to a server of ours, because we do not operate one.
As the app's developer, we receive only the standard, aggregated sales and payout reporting that Apple provides to all developers in App Store Connect. That reporting does not identify you personally.
5. What we do not do
- We do not upload, back up, transmit or scan your photos on any server.
- We do not use analytics or product-telemetry SDKs (no Firebase, Google Analytics, PostHog, Amplitude, Mixpanel, Segment or similar).
- We do not use crash-reporting SDKs such as Sentry or Crashlytics.
- We do not show advertising and we do not use advertising identifiers (IDFA).
- We do not sell, rent or share personal data — we do not hold any to begin with.
- We do not track you across apps or websites.
Apple may provide us with anonymous, aggregated App Store metrics (for example, download counts and, if you opted in to share analytics with developers, aggregated crash statistics). That flow is controlled by Apple and by your own iOS settings, not by code in Clean Roll. You can review it under Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements.
6. Children
Clean Roll is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, regardless of age — because it does not collect information at all.
7. Your data rights and how to delete your data
Because Clean Roll stores nothing off your device, there is no account to close and no server-side data for us to export or erase. To remove everything Clean Roll has saved:
- Delete the app. Removing Clean Roll from your iPhone deletes its local storage, including all keep/remove decisions and preferences.
- Revoke photo access at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Photos → Clean Roll.
- Your purchase is tied to your Apple Account, not to us. You can restore it on any device signed in to the same Apple Account. Refunds are handled by Apple.
Under GDPR and comparable laws you have rights of access, correction, deletion, restriction and portability. We are happy to answer any request, but in practice we hold no personal data about you to act on. If you believe otherwise, email us and we will investigate and respond.
8. Changes to this policy
If Clean Roll ever changes in a way that affects this policy — for example if a feature were added that required a network connection — we will update this page and change the "Last updated" date above before that version ships.
